ITALIAN BEHAVIOR: LEWIS MODEL

 LEWIS MODEL AND ITALY

Bouna notte, q’ hubo, be welcome once again to The country of your dreams. Today we’re gonna talk about  the Lewis model and how it can be a guideline to understand different cultures. The Lewis model is a way to categorize all cultures in the world for a better compression of these, it divides the cultural norms of different categories into three categories: linear active, multi-actives and reactives culture. This way to understand the world was created by Richard Lewis, a british linguist, who decided to create this model despite the knowling of how dangerous the stereotypes can be.

Both Italy and Colombia are multi-actives countries, that means both countries have the same general characteristics, such as loquacious, lively and impulsive people, and other aspects that we are going to talk about  during this post.

Some problems that an Italian person might come across if they were to do a study abroad here in Barranquilla may be I) Barranquilleros may think that IItalians want to appear in every activity, being meddling and nosy, because multi-actives countries like Italia, They like to do many things at the same time and tend to feel confined by agendas. II) They could be considered lazy, because procrastination and unpunctuality are frequent in them, due t Italian people being flexible and often changing their plans. III) Also, another problem might be due to in the conversations Italian people interrupt frequently, they try to speak and listen at the same time, and they are uncomfortable with silence, for that reason, they could be considered impolite/rude.

Now, you know more about Italy and their population behavior in some aspects like General Characteristics, Time Characteristics and Conversation Characteristics. To conclude, we hope you understand their behavior and don't be afraid or get upset, they have natural characteristics as us. For shure, if we go to Italy it can be happen to us too.
