ITALY: SUBCULTURES AND TRIBES

Hello hello! Welcome again to The country of your dreams, this is our last post . I have to say that it has been an amazing experience. We learned many things about Italy and even, about our own country. We know, we know, nobody can travel the last year, but now you know everything you need to visit the wonderful country of your dreams.

In this last post we are going to talk about subcultures. Have you been part of any? I did. That was a really funny story starring a teenage girl who just wanted to find herself. By the way, if you don’t know what is a subculture, according to Cambrigde dictionary is ‘‘the way of life, customs, and ideas of a particular group of people within a society that are different from the rest of that society.’’ For example hippies, hipsters, rockers, scooters, bikers, etc.

So, let’s talk about italian subcultures.

WINE CULTURE: Italy has produced wine for more than 5000 years since Roman empire. Also, Italy consumes almost 135% of wine every year by person, that means  almost all the Italian population drink wine on weekends, in dinner, with food and the wine is considered the best drink for everything. Currently Italy has 523 registered denominations of wine, and is the country with the highest number of quality recognitions by origin. For that reason, Italia has become with France as the largest wine producers worldwide, having their own classification system for their wine production.

ITALIAN YUPPIES
: The yuppie figure short for Young Urban Professional, a businessman figure that originated in the mid-1980s in the United States.

The Italian yuppie was an evolution of the Americans yuppie, with prominent figures such as Gianni Agnelli or following the style of the film Yuppies - I giovani di successo, whose their main characteristic was being the young professional "unbridled" lover of capitalism and the need for a lifestyle that even could be not real. Although the typical portrait of the yuppie of the 80s changed, the mentality did not. For example, yes, if you walk through Bologna, you might meet some of them. Right now, they are the ones who, despite being out of the office, still have a tie and jacket, and move in small groups drinking spritz.

Yuccies: There also exist the tribes, that Cambridge dictionary says that they are “a group of people, often of related families, who live together, sharing the same language, culture, and history, especially those who do not live in towns or cities”. Around the world exist many tribes like nuits, gypsies, etc. We’re going to concentrate our attention on tribes within Italy. For example, the yuccies, they are a modern urban tribe, a mix of hipsters and yuppies. <<Yuccies>> means Young Urban Creatives, David Infante wrote a post for Mashable, he said "the hipster is dead, and you might not like who comes next." That's because yuccies basically are the worst of both parts. They love money and all the luxury it can buy, that’s the yuppie’s part, because they love to creative work, freelance and buy handcraft stuff. Yuccies love to spend their money on fancy food, technology and save money for weekend trips, obviously to instagrammable places (because yuccies love sharing all their life with their followers.

And well, who knows what is the next urban tribu.

Arrivederci and goodbye our dears, was a pleasure to write four you. Nos pi’.
